Hong Kong Housing Society brought love and care to solitary elderly during Mid-Autumn Festival
Supported by the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS), the “HS Academy Alumni Club” joined hand with HKYWCA for the first time to organise a home visit programme during the Mid-Autumn Festival, where volunteers made mooncakes and sent blessings to the elderly residents in Kwun Lung Lau at Sai Wan.
The volunteers began the day at YWCA’s service centre where they were guided to make healthy, low-sugar traditional mooncakes for the elderly residents to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. These hand-made mooncakes, filled with all the warm blessings, are carefully packed and brought to the elderly households in Kwun Lung Lau together with hearty gift bags of festive foods and daily necessities. The volunteers chatted joyfully with the elderly residents about their daily lives and cared about their recent health conditions during the home visits.
The “HS Academy Alumni Club” was set up this year with the aim to engage awardees of HKHS’ scholarships. The Alumni Club organises a variety of professional development and community service opportunities for its members to help expand their professional network and broaden their horizon. HKYWCA will continue to work hand-in-hand with HKHS and the Alumni Club in future community services for the needy groups in our society.
