Every handicraft product comes with a heartwarming story! A group of old ladies enriched their retirement and found satisfaction in sharing their stories with handmade products. “Online Handmade Market” was then hosted to show people the talents of the old ladies and to raise fund for YWCA Jockey Club Y Evergreen Learning Centre.
More than 80 elderly volunteers were invited across the Association to make handmade products for sale. Pui-chi was a seamstress when she was young, before the garment industry went into a decline. She picked up her skill last year during COVID-19 outbreak to ease the shortage of masks by making cloth face masks. Fung-ngor, on the other hand, knitted woven dolls to find inner peace and temporarily withdraw from taking care of her husband and stroke mother.
An upcycling volunteer group made cardholders with rags and cartons, and produced a series of fabric DIYs to raise public awareness on eco-friendliness. Other products included fabric items, waterproof facemask cases, handmade soap and insect repellents etc.
