YouTuber has been an emerging occupation among the younger generation. It also attracts attention from certain elderly groups, e.g. the grandparents who joined the new programme organised by the Association’s Sai Wan Social Centre for the Elderly. Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the programme invited a young YouTuber to instruct the participants to write scripts, compose the frames, design sets etc. Apart from practical skills, the tutor also introduced the latest cyberculture and important practices on privacy protection, in order to familiar the elderly with the essentials of becoming a YouTuber.
The participants are serious, and engage in every aspect of the production, e.g. cinematography, sound and lighting. They will produce a list of short lifestyle videos, like unboxing and slangs sharing. The first one is about the stories of the elderly YouTubers and has been uploaded to the centre’s YouTube channel. The next will be in celebration of the coming Lunar New Year. Subscribe now so not to miss the latest update!
The YouTuber programme responds to the concept of shared space promoted by the centre and encourages interaction between generations. Such innovative practice helps young old remain positive and expand social circles, which in general is beneficial to their retired life.
