ChariTea was back in the community to celebrate IWD
ChariTea 2023 has been successfully held. In line with the tradition of using red date tea to spread love to women, YWCA was back in the community to distribute tea bags to the public, after 3 years’ suspension because of the pandemic. In addition, more than 100 distribution points were added to this year’s campaign. To encourage women to live a healthy lifestyle, apart from making a series of exercise tips, the Association invited Hong Kong athletes to promote regular exercise as well.
On the morning of March 8, i.e. International Women’s Day, YWCA staff and volunteers gathered in Wan Chai, Wong Tai Sin, Shek Kip Mei, Shatin, Tai Wai and Tin Shui Wai respectively, to distribute red date tea bags and remind people to take care of the women around them. Such outdoor arrangement had been suspended for 3 years during the pandemic, and hence the volunteers were excited to finally meet the public in person again. YWCA was also grateful for the support of our partners, including Watsons, 24/7 FITNESS, Choi Fung, Samuel Ashley, Joint Publishing, Chung Hwa Book and The Commercial Press, for giving out tea bags to their members and customers in various retail outlets.
Noticing that Hong Kong women generally lack exercise and neglect one’s health, this year’s ChariTea encouraged women to change their lifestyle and spare time for exercise. With the help of the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association and Asian Academy for Sports & Fitness Professionals, YWCA was glad to invite a number of Hong Kong athletes and fitness trainers to promote the importance of exercise. Participating athletes included badminton player Tse Ying Suet, windsurfer Chan Hei Man Hayley, wushu athlete Mok Uen Ying Juanita, fitness trainer Toby and Mina, etc. Trainers from YWCA Y Fitness had also designed a few sets of basic exercise that people can practise at home and in the office.
The Association is grateful for the sponsorship from our corporate partners, including the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Watsons, Clarins, Jade Land Properties (HK) Limited, Lee Hong Dispensary Superstore Co., Ltd., New World China, ProCare Chiropractic and Physiotherapy Centre, Union Enterprises and Urban Group. The funds raised from ChiariTea will be used in the Association’s self-financed women services, to support those in need.
