According to the Mental Health Review Report (2017), there are approximately 100,000 people living with dementia in Hong Kong. Decline in physical function, memory loss, emotional instability are common symptoms. In later stage they may become completely dependent on others, yet unable to recognise the one who takes care of them.

Since 2018, YWCA has introduced 5-sense training in various elderly centres. In recent years, the launch of the “5-Sense Box” training package and 5-sense training day camp extend our service to enhance the perceptual functions of elderly with dementia, slow down the rate of deterioration and improve patients' quality of life. The Association also pays attention to the needs of carers. Apart from enhancing their caring skills, regular workshops also focus on relaxation and helping them to be aware of any stress and emotional problems.
