YWCA participated in a fascinating “Tai Kwun Docent Tour cum Soft Pastel Workshop” organised by the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team. The journey deepened participants’ understanding of Hong Kong's cultural heritage, and fostered parent-child interaction and communication.

Led by CARE@hkjc docents, 36 participants consisting of primary school students and their parents, strolled around Tai Kwun, and understood more about the over 180-year history of the architectural complex. The docents also introduced the uniqueness of this heritage and art center, as well as the conservation and revitalisation of the complex. The participants learned not only about Hong Kong's profound cultural history, but also the role cultural heritage plays in promoting sustainable development.

There was also a soft pastel workshop after the guided tour. CARE@hkjc tutor and volunteers in groups guided the children and parents to work in close collaboration to create unique artworks “Pony at Tai Kwun”. While enjoying the joy of creation, they also expressed emotions through colours and patterns. The workshop was filled with fun and laughter which helped to deepen the understanding and connection between the family members. 

The event was a resounding success. It provided a brilliant opportunity for the children and their parents to sightsee and create, in which the caring spirit of the volunteers contributed to the collaborations and our community. The Association sincerely thanks the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team for the invitation and looks forward to more projects in the future to bring diverse and enriching activities to the needy.
