Helen Lee Kindergarten serves families in Tung Chung
The Hong Kong Government has been proactive in turning Tung Chung into a new town with adequate housing and infrastructure. Educational facilities are also indispensable for cultivating talents. Knowing how much parents care about quality early childhood education, YWCA starts a new kindergarten in the area, and names it after Mrs. Helen Lee, whose contribution has been essential to the project.
The opening ceremony of Helen Lee Kindergarten was held on 15 May. Attendees included the Most Revd Andrew Chan, Archbishop and Primate of HKSKH; Mrs. Helen Lee, major donor of the kindergarten; Ms. Helena To, the Association’s President; Ms. Yvonne Yeung, the Association’s Chief Executive, and more. Ms. To thanked Mrs. Lee, in her welcome address, for placing great trust in YWCA and offering a large sum of money when the Association decided to submit application for registration of a kindergarten. In recognition of Mrs. Lee’s generous donation, the kindergarten is named as “Helen Lee Kindergarten”.
In his speech, the Most Revd Andrew Chan encouraged the teachers to cultivate the children with the truths in the Bible. He wished the children can keep their innocence even when they enter adulthood, and rely on God to overcome adversity in times of difficulties.
Apart from expressing gratitude to Mrs. Lee, Ms. Cecilia Wong, the chancellor of the kindergarten also acknowledged the contribution of the reading corner and piano by Ms. To and Ms. Florence Lee respectively. The nice environment and advance facilities will definitely leave the children with happy learning experience and good memories. She wished the school sponsoring body and staff will work together to nurture the kids in the future. Ms. To and Ms. Yeung gave out souvenirs to all the attending guests.
Helen Lee Kindergarten is the first service unit out of the eleven under YWCA’s Early Childhood Education Department that situated in the Islands District. It aims at fostering active learners and healthy children, and encourages students to learn through play. Sensory integration is also one of the important elements in the campus, hoping to strengthen students' sensory stimulation and motor skills.
