Home visits showed care to elderly in Eastern District
The unpredictable weather makes people prone to sickness. Therefore, the Labour and Welfare Bureau and the Social Welfare Department, together with community volunteers, visited elderly and gave tips on staying warm.
The Labour and Welfare Bureau and Social Welfare Department Volunteer Team arrived at YWCA Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre to meet other volunteers from Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College and Evangelical Free Church of China Taikoo Shing Church. They formed a team of almost 50 persons and visited 36 singleton and doubleton elderly families living in the Eastern District. They brought along warming packs with thermal underwear, scarves, wool socks, flasks and warmers, as well as leaflet on cold prevention tips for elderly, to provide practical information for the elderly to protect themselves from the cold.
During December and January, we have also invited 400 elderly to collect various items purchased with the support of the Social Welfare Department to keep them warm.
