“Jockey Club Family Connect Project” promotes family cohesion
The Association organised different activities under “Jockey Club Family Connect Project”, to promote family wellness and help families to establish positive communication.
YWCA’s Western District Integrated Social Service Centre designs activities according to the project themes of the year to promote healthy family relationship. In the past two years, the Association set up game booths and organised handmade workshops in response to the themes “Together We Play” and “Together We Explore” respectively. Other than introducing quality time for parent-child interaction, the activities served extra purposes. For example, board games, Lego sand pond etc. were tools to explain the importance of play to children’s development and family relationship. DIY workshops on dried flower and UV resin allowed participants to learn constructive communication skills.
In 2020, COVID-19 prevents us from meeting each other. However, we managed to hold an online class about parent-child workout. No matter it is jump squat with clap or partner quad stretch, participants can only complete the moves with the help of their family members. The workout did not only help the participants to stay healthy, but also provided entertainment for the family. Participants were encouraged to give their family members words of compliment with a massage on the shoulder and both hands after the exercises, which stuck to the theme “Together We Serve” and was good for building harmonious and caring environment.
Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service has started the three-year “Jockey Club Family Connect Project” since 2017. YWCA is pleased to be one of the participating organisations and has served around 50 families within the three years.
