New principal of Y.W.C.A. Hioe Tjo Yoeng College looks forward to the school’s 50th anniversary
Established in 1971, Y.W.C.A. Hioe Tjo Yoeng College (HTYC) celebrates its 50th anniversary in the school year 2021/2022. Mr. Kwok Sai Man, Simon, the new principal, assumes office, expecting to provide “gifted education for all”, and guide the students to understand the philosophy of the Bible.
Simon is not new to the school. He was a HTYC graduate and had been a teacher here for five years after finishing his tertiary education. He then continued his teaching career at another secondary school in Tin Shui Wai. Another 20 years have passed and he was the vice principal before returning to his alma mater.
HTYC has a long history of STEM education and students have been awarded in different competitions. The School has also been appointed by the government to run enriched IT classes to provide intensive training for F.2 students with potentials. Simon plans to develop similar schemes to nurture students who are talented in other fields, for example, visual arts, music, physical education etc.
Simon emphasises that HTYC nurtures students with meticulous care and love. He would like his students to have a loving heart and utilise their knowledge to help people. “Bible teaches us that one who does not love is nothing, no matter how clever, talented and knowledgeable one is.”
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school, Simon reveals plans to be carried out between December 2021 and August 2022. For example, alumni banquet and global alumni online concert will be organised for past students to gather, and to raise funds for school campus renovation.
