PARKnSHOP extends free food coupon scheme to more regions and helps elderly under COVID-19 pandemic
While more and more people live in poverty, Hong Kong records a poverty rate over 44% in elderly population according to the latest pre-intervention poverty figures. To provide more substantive support to the underprivileged elders whose living have been greatly affected by the pandemic, YWCA is honored to work with PARKnSHOP again to extend the long-running "Free Food Coupon for Senior Citizens” programme to more regions. After assessing the needs of our service users, the Association will distribute free food coupons on behalf of PARKnSHOP. It is expected that as many as 1,800 needy elderly people aged 65 or above will benefit this year.
Under the new arrangement, the programme will serve elderly living in various districts in phases this year. In the first phase, 450 elders living in Islands District (Tai O and Tung Chung) will be each given a set of elderly food coupons valued around HK$150 since March, allowing them to redeem food and daily necessities for free within 3 months at designated PARKnSHOP stores in the community, to reduce their financial burden. More food coupons will be distributed to elderly living in Kowloon City, North District and Yuen Long in the coming months.
PARKnSHOP and supermarkets place donation boxes to raise fund for the Association
Besides the food coupon programme, donation boxes will be placed at all PARKnSHOP stores* from now until 7 Apr, to raise fund for our elderly services. We sincerely invite the enthusiastic participation from the public so that we can take care of the needy together. The Association once again thanks PARKnSHOP for working with us to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged.
*Participating brands include PARKnSHOP, FUSION, TASTE, INTERNATIONAL, Food Le Parc, GOURMET, GREAT and SU-PA-DE-PA.
