PARKnSHOP volunteers visited the Mills with the elderly
The Mills, located in Tsuen Wan, witnessed the golden age of Hong Kong's textile industry. Subsequent to the decline of the industry, the Mills has been revitalised and transformed into a trendy landmark integrating culture, innovation and learning experience. To let elderly in the North District do sightseeing at the Mills, YWCA Jockey Club Y Care Elderly Centre (Sha Tau Kok) cooperated with PARKnSHOP and arranged a visit. Volunteers gathered to accompany the elderly, thereby strengthening the connection between the elderly and the community, and fostering intergenerational harmony.
The bus carrying 18 elders and PARKnSHOP volunteers departed from Fanling and arrived at the Mills. Participants divided themselves into groups and toured around, following the 6 hint cards. While the elders and volunteers took photos at designated locations to complete the tasks, they also learnt about the interesting facts about the place, such as the vintage fire extinguisher "Sand Buckets" which ensured the safety of the workers, and the "Golden Cup" that marked one of the champion brands in the past, etc.
Participants also joined a guided tour that thoroughly introduced the history of the Mills. The quiz that the volunteers hosted further made the atmosphere come alive. They also shaped the artwork "Wavy Weaving Wall" via fun puzzle game and took beautiful photos. Goody bags that PARKnSHOP prepared were given to the elderly towards the end of the event, making everyone satisfied and happy.
