Addressing the challenge of an ageing population, the Association reached out to the grassroots recently, successfully hosting a Mid-Autumn Gala at Lok Wah Estate. Centered around the themes of a "Soul Night Market" and a "Parent-Child Float Parade", the event introduced a co-creation model led by children and youth to revitalise the estate’s public area. The initiative not only built an intergenerational bridge for grassroots families and the elderly, but also effectively alleviated loneliness among elderly residents, easing emotional distress caused by fractured social networks.

The highlight of the initiative was the "Youth and Parent-Child Float Workshops", which brought together the collective efforts of the community. Across several workshop sessions, youth workers, elderly, and local families utilised recycled materials, wooden structures, and LED decorations to integrate Lok Wah Estate’s history, neighborhood stories, and China’s "Shenzhou-23" aerospace mission. Participants demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship by sawing, assembling, and decorating unique glowing floats. This artistic collaboration not only aroused community awareness of national aerospace achievement, but also eased parenting and caregiving pressure, while nurturing mutual trust and solidarity among neighbours.

On the evening of the gala, a fleet of exquisite, glowing floats embarked on a flash parade, bringing neighbourhood memories and festive blessings into the community, and attracting a large number of elderly residents. Young volunteers extended warm greetings to the seniors, allowing these elderly individuals, who often lack companionship, to experience long-lost warmth and care amidst the joyful atmosphere.

The Association extended its heartfelt gratitude to all partners, especially the Hong Kong Housing Authority, for their enthusiastic support.  This cross-sector collaboration affirmed the invaluable contributions of both youth and seniors, and seamlessly embedded mental health first aid into community practices, building an inclusive and highly supportive network for Lok Wah Estate. YWCA looks forward to collaborating with more like-minded partners in the future to revitalise more public spaces, fostering a healthy community filled with compassion and a sense of well-being.
