Therapy workshop helped young people to understand career of healthcare professionals
While the demand for healthcare services is growing drastically in Hong Kong, the supply of qualified therapists is far from adequate. YWCA, therefore, launched the “Physiotherapy X Sports Therapy Workshop” to help young people find out the job nature and the career path of the professions.
A group of F.4 students from Ho Lap College who take physical education as HKDSE elective joined a 2-hour workshop in Y Health and Wellness Centre in early July. The physiotherapy session introduced the role and job responsibility of a physiotherapist, and showed them how to treat and prevent injuries using kinesiology tape.
The sports therapy session shared information about causes of sports injuries, and possible prevention and treatment. Students were also invited to take an assessment on one’s balance and coordination by performing certain movements.
Participants found the workshop informative and served as a good reference when one has to choose university subject. Y Health and Wellness Centre welcomes collaboration with secondary schools and believes that similar workshops help young people understand healthcare professionals.
