HKYWCA Career Development and Continuing Education Department and Employees Retraining Board co-organised the Training and Career Expo that attracted more than 1,000 visitors.

Over 30 corporates participated in the expo and 11 of them conducted on-site interviews. Participating corporates came from industries including retail, catering, health care, property management, beauty, hospitality, etc. and offered more than 2,300 vacancies. Some job positions, like health worker and domestic helper, are particularly suitable for housewives as they have short and flexible working hours.

Experts provided information on job prospects, employment opportunities and career path. We also organised two seminars to deepen visitors’ understanding on different industries. An experienced dog trainer shared her job duties and experiences. She pointed out that women were generally more caring and observant, which made them good candidates for the industry. Ms. Nie Min, a trainee of the Foundation Certificate in Assistant for Chinese Medical Clinic talked about her experience on switching occupation and how to keep the balance between work and life. Ms. Nie needs to stay in the community she lives in to take care of her family after moving to Hong Kong and hence can no longer work in the accounting industry. She took an ERB course, and upon graduation, was referred by the tutor and students affairs officer to work as a full time assistant in a Chinese medical clinic. She suggested people to learn more about the work environment in Hong Kong and prepare oneself for continuing education in order to advance one's own career.
