After Crying Leaf, the Association’s Emotion Education Picture Book Series has received another Publishing Award in the Children and Youth category at the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards. The winning titles, Disgusting Hair and Worrying Otter, have helped parents and children navigate emotional challenges through heartfelt storytelling grounded in professional psychological theory.

The award-winning picture books focus on common emotional struggles faced by children. Disgusting Hair showed the growth of the main character, Willow, as he rescued his spider friend and overcame feelings of disgust. Worrying Otter depicted how the otter, Ollie, experienced physical and mental symptoms due to his fear of losing in a swimming competition, ultimately regaining courage at a magical base. Both titles incorporated Emotion Coaching Theory into the narratives and included interactive guides to foster meaningful parent-child dialogue.

The series focuses on four common children's emotions: anger, sadness, disgust, and worry. Since the publication of the first picture book in 2021, the series has received positive feedbacks from parents and educators, and is recommended by professional organisations. It has become valuable local resources for emotion education.
