Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre organised a one-year cross-generation programme “Amazing Elderly Puppet Show”. Secondary school students and social work university students collected true stories from the elderly and wrote the script for the puppet show. The young and the old also worked together to make hand puppets and performed in front of the public, displaying the passion and energy of the elderly. “Amazing Elderly Puppet Show” garnered 2nd runner up in Hong Kong Best Activity Award in “Opportunities for the Elderly project 2022/23” by Social Welfare Department. 

The elderly played an active role on stage and at the backstage. They utilised their voice to act and deliver the story to the audience. The protagonist of the puppet show suffered from cancer, but refused to seek medical treatment for fear of high medical expenses. Fortunately, with the support from her family members, neighbours, friends and a good doctor, she finally recovered from the fatal disease and became a volunteer to give back to the community. The puppet show also helped a sick old lady in real life. She was touched by the story and made up her mind to fight against the disease positively. It was a real case of influence life with life.
