YWCA and elite athletes showed care to the underprivileged community
Co-organised by Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association and YWCA, “Together We Care 2021” officially commenced in mid-November. Over 1,100 volunteers participated and visited 2,800 singleton households and low-income families in 12 districts, including Sai Wan, Wong Tai Sin, Sham Shui Po, North District and Tin Shui Wai.
The event put “Just‧Simple” into practice, by encouraging simple living and justice. The gift packs were hence filled with useful things like food, household goods, masks and hand sanitizers. There were also cards prepared by elite athletes, coaches, parents and students from PLK Riverain Primary School to deliver their blessing.
Because of the pandemic, last year’s event had been postponed and all home visits had been cancelled. The volunteers finally could meet the needy this year. They visited the families and handed out the gifts in person after the launching ceremony. It was a breezy day and everyone was joyful. Even the reserved elderly talked and smiled a lot!
