YWCA created videos and board games to support students entering secondary schools
YWCA Jockey Club Family Wellness Centre implements “YWCA Jockey Club Joyful Transition with Families” to offer practical advices and emotional support to primary 6 students and their families. A video series and two board games have been created lately.
The video series features three students who have just entered secondary school and share common problems that their peers face. “Dream Master” feels impotent with the school curriculum. “Chang-o’s Descendant” hates her pushy mother. “No Friends” finds it difficult to make new friends in the school. The videos are made to prepare the students for the changes and provide feasible suggestions. The videos are now aired in “YWCA Jockey Club Joyful Transition with Families”’s Facebook Page, and are highly recommended for students and parents.
Other than the videos, two sets of board game suitable for parent-child interaction have been made. Scenarios from the pandemic, like getting the virus, acquiring masks, disinfecting with alcohol, are incorporated in the first game. It is designed by a group of secondary 1 students, aiming to increase players’ awareness on personal hygiene under COVID-19. Another one consists of a stack of cards with questions like “My favrourite dish” and “Thing I want to do the most with my family”. By answering the questions, family members can know more about each other and develop a close relationship. Limited copies of the games are available. Feel free to call Mr. Chow at 2700 1700 to get yourself a set.
Sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, YWCA organised “YWCA Jockey Club Joyful Transition with Families” for primary 6 students and their parents. The programme aimed to help students to develop positive emotion throughout the supporting activities and specific support to families in need.
