Co-organised by YWCA, the first “JC Bonfire Hub” under “JC Project Bonfire” has commenced operation in Tuen Mun. Its opening ceremony was held last month, and was graced by officiating guests including Ms. Nikki Ng, BBS, Voting Member of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Non-Executive Director and Director of Philanthropy, Sino Group; Ms. Wendy Chau, Assistant Director (Family & Child Welfare), Social Welfare Department; and Ms. Elsie Tsang, Executive Manager, Charities (Children & Youth in Families), The Hong Kong Jockey Club. Together with the project partners, they witnessed the official establishment of this innovative service in the community.

Ms. Olivia Leung, Honorary Secretary and Chairperson of the Social Service Committee of the Association expressed gratitude to all collaborating partners in her opening speech. It was their trust and cooperation that put the service centered on the growth of foster children and youth into reality. The “JC Bonfire Hub” represents an extension of “JC Project Bonfire”, providing companionship and support for foster families.

“JC Project Bonfire” is dedicated to addressing the diverse needs of foster children and youth at various stages of their lives. Apart from facilitating family reunions, it also expands learning and development opportunities for the beneficiaries, and offers independent living skills training for youth preparing to leave the foster care system. Furthermore, by establishing district-based platforms, it strengthens the connection between families and the community, weaving a robust and supportive social network.

The project is expected to serve over 2,600 children and family members, aiming to transform children from passive service recipients into active, confident individuals with self-assurance. Looking ahead, YWCA will take the launch of “JC Bonfire Hub” as a starting point, and continue to work hand-in-hand with all sectors to create a promising future for all foster families and the next generation.
