YWCA promotes health in the North District by running the North DHC Express
The Government is determined to strengthen primary healthcare services across Hong Kong. District Health Centres are set up to enhance public awareness of disease prevention and self-health management capability. YWCA is honoured to become one of the operators, and started running the North District Health Centre Express (North DHC Express) in mid-October.
The North DHC Express will serve people living or working in the North District, by providing diversified primary healthcare services and support. Cooperated with networked doctors, optometrist, Chinese medicine practitioner, dietitian, occupational therapist, speech therapist, etc., the team will help service users to stay healthy.
An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. We will raise members’ awareness on personal wellness by organising health promotion and disease prevention activities, e.g. physical fitness training, health ambassador programme, seminars on common diseases, etc. Advanced physical training and health management equipment is available for members to master their own fitness progress and personal health data. Nurse will conduct assessment and screening for members to identify risk factors for diabetes mellitus and hypertension, and refer members to networked medical practitioners for consultation when needed. Many serious illnesses can be nipped in the bud if they are detected early enough. For those who suffer from chronic diseases, we will offer rehabilitation services to enhance their ability of disease management.
North DHC Express is situated in Sheung Shui, with 3 additional service spots in Fanling, Sha Tau Kok and Ta Kwu Ling. The outreach service coach will also reach out to North District residents living in rural villages. To know more about the services provided by the North DHC Express, please call 2511 6000.
