YWCA teamed up with DBS Bank to make children’s wishes come true
We believe that every child deserves to be loved, and should embrace hope and happiness. Recently, more than 100 children from needy families received precious gifts through the "Grant A Wish For Kid" project jointly hosted by YWCA and DBS Bank. Dedicated volunteers from DBS Bank sent the gifts they sourced to YWCA, so as to pass to the children. The beneficiaries were joyful to have their wishes come true. They also had a taste of unconditioned love from the volunteers.
Unlike ordinary gift donations, this project emphasised children’s right to choose. We encouraged children to do some research on what can be bought with HK$200 before deciding the gift they want. Some of the reasons behind the choices were heartwarming. A girl who wished to have Chinese sausages mentioned that her parents were busy and they had very little family time. Major holidays and festivals were the few occasions that they spent time together, and enjoyed great dishes with Chinese sausages. Therefore, the traditional food represents her hope for opportunities to be with her parents. Another boy wished to get a suit for his piano performance. He also wanted to invite his parents to attend the event to thank them for saving money for him to learn piano.
The project helped 39 children from needy families and 63 young mothers’ kids. The Association organised a workshop for the children and asked them to convey their gratitude to the volunteers. It also helped the kids to express their emotions through texts and drawing. We sincerely thank DBS Bank for supporting this project and hope that long-term cooperation can be established to realise the potentials of more needy children in the future.
