“Volunteering is the contribution of time, effort and talent to a need, cause or mission without financial gain. This kind of simplicity attracts me and now I get used to volunteering regularly. Even on my birthday, I went out in the morning to give anti-epidemic items to the elderly and cleaners in Sham Shui Po. This makes my birthday special,” said a YWCA Honorary volunteer.
Adhering to the purpose of “life enhancement”, the Association endeavors to recruit members and encourage members to become volunteers. Through different activities and services, volunteers are equipped with skills and caring attitude to serve the community, and support the spiritual and tangible needs of the underprivileged. Volunteer development is a continuous journey full of love and care, and it emphasises inter-generational leadership as well. To encourage the public to participate in voluntary work and become YWCA volunteers, the Association has upgraded its Volunteer Award Scheme. Changes include:
(1) Adding awards for children volunteers, parent-child volunteers, and enthusiastic participants, etc.
(2) Adjusting the annual service hours requirement for individual volunteer award
(3) Enhancing the procedure and requirements for taking the Honorary Award
(4) Launching a new campaign to redeem gifts and activities with volunteering hours (*to be launched in June 2023)
Power from “me” may not be sufficient but with the power from “we”, the impossible can be possible. Register now to become a YWCA volunteer! For more details, please refer to the leaflet here or contact the Association’s Christian Ministry and Membership Department at 3476 1324.
