To drive women-oriented services and foster cross-sector community engagement, the Association launched a knitting initiative with Citybus recently. The meaningful project provided a platform for a group of passionate women from the Association’s knitting group to showcase their outstanding talents, and connect with corporate professionals through the sharing of skillful craftsmanship.

As one of the Association’s core services dedicated to empowering women and elevating their social status, the knitting group has for years responded to social needs through seasonal gifting and knitting mentorship. By helping women master skills for self-reliance, the group enables them to reshape their personal value and build self-confidence. The collaboration with Citybus was divided into two parts. First, the women of the knitting group channelled their skills into designing and handcrafting two custom-made hanging ornaments for Citybus, including 200 handrail charms and 30 miniature buses. Citybus will present these exquisite handmade crafts as tokens of appreciation to corporate partners, further promoting women’s autonomy to the wider community while recognising the extraordinary craftmanship of the knitting group.

Another highlight of the initiative was promoting the art of crocheting. Two crochet workshops were organised for volunteers from the Citybus Awesome Team. Breaking the traditional stereotype of being mere service recipients, the women of the knitting group steeped up as instructors, guiding Citybus staff to experience the joy of crocheting. This cross-sector engagement allowed volunteers from diverse backgrounds to enjoy meaningful communication and expand their social networks. Not only did it boost the women’s sense of capability, but also enabled both parties to celebrated their custom handcrafted achievements together.

The Association extended its sincere appreciation to Citybus for their enthusiastic  participation in making the project successful. This impact-driven collaboration highlighted the invaluable contributions of women in society and strengthened cross-sector alignment to build a more inclusive community environment.
