YWCA Y Evergreen sent 11 elderly to join Elderly eSports & Experience Day and won the champion and first runner-up in FIFA tournament. The event helped participants to make new friends with people who share similar hobbies.
To prepare the elderly for the tournament, Y Evergreen organised two training sessions, with member from Rotary Club of Smart Hong Kong as the coach. All participants found video games interesting, but had never taken part in FIFA games because they thought it is designed for young people. After the trainings and tournament, they were keen to learn more about FIFA and other racing games. Some of them even considered buying the console.
The Association was honoured to be invited to participate in Elderly eSports & Experience Day, organised by Hong Kong Innovative Technology Development Association and Rotary Club of Smart Hong Kong. It raised public awareness on the ageing population, and expanded senior citizens’ social circle through eSports. YWCA plans to run similar activities in the future to increase interaction between 50+ retirees.
