“Your Backyard in Tin Shui Wai” shows the diversity of a park in the neighbourhood
YWCA Tin Library collaborates with the Yuen Long District Council to organise Yuen Long Park Festival - “Your Backyard in Tin Shui Wai”. With the contribution from the community members and artists, the project reveals the possibilities of Tin Shui Wai Park.
Inspired by the phrase “not in my back yard”, the curators of the festival change it to “share in my back yard” and want people to contribute ideas to the enhancement of Tin Shui Wai Park. Local residents and artists are invited to enlighten others through different art forms, e.g. music, drama, spatial design, etc. Taking the park features and people’s interaction into consideration, participants outline the perfect park in their minds.
For example, community design concept has been employed in Public Space Remake. By reaching out to the park users and knowing their needs, the stargazing seatings bring enjoyment and benefit to local residents. Another workshop focuses on SAORI and brings lively decoration to the facilities in the park.
During the Park Festival, the art pieces will be placed in Tin Shui Wai Park. The public may join the guided tours led by the curators to learn more about the work, or even participate in the workshops to have a taste of community building. For more details, please visit the website of the Festival.
YWCA Tin Library has been promoting community engagement via art projects. With the support from the Yuen Long District Council, Tin Shui Wai Park becomes the subject of discussion. We would like to invite everyone to pay a visit and learn about the utilization of public spaces.
SAORI weavers express their feelings towards the community through their work. The weaving pieces then become decorations of the shelters in the park and inspire visitors to think about the possible appearance of ordinary objects.
