According to the Department of Health, the number of cases waiting for developmental anomalies assessment received by the six child assessment centres increased between 2010 and 2012, and exceeded 8,700 in 2012. Sadly, research done by social welfare organisation and concern group in 2013 showed that it took an average of 12-15 months, or up to 24 months, for applicants to be assessed. Even after being diagnosed, the average waiting time for training reached 3-4 years. Missing the prime learning period often leads to serious developmental and adjustment problems.
We work with different education institution’s departments that specialise in speech therapy, occupational therapy, special education and counseling, to provide professional assessments and trainings for young children with special needs. Our clinical psychologists will advise cases to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services when deem suitable, to ensure children receive necessary assistance during the prime learning period and to avoid rapid deterioration.
For every HK$10,000 donation, you can offer professional assessment to twelve young children, or assessment and training to a child for four months.
