AXA Hong Kong promoted mental wellness among YWCA’s service users
AXA Hong Kong ("AXA") collaborated with YWCA in the remote volunteering activities for its annual "AXA Corporate Responsibility Week 2020" ("AXA CR Week"). AXA volunteers learned to create DIY items through online workshops to promote mental wellness to our service users during COVID-19 situation.
The unexpected pandemic did not stop AXA from sending care to the vulnerable groups. 75 volunteers from AXA joined the online workshops hosted by the Association’s Handmade 38C, to make heartwarming gifts for the kids and their parents. The DIY Rain Stick workshop introduced a musical toy made of paper tubes, rice, beans, hemp ropes, clays, etc, which will attract children with its textures and healing sounds. The sound of raining is believed to be able to stimulate the sense of hearing for children.
Volunteers who joined the other two workshops created DIY "Cheer-up Booklets" that provide spiritual support and practical advice to the receivers, who are the parents. We understand that it is easy for parents to neglect their emotional needs when they have to spend more time and effort in taking care of their kids during class suspension. To support those parents, the instructor of Handmade 38C designed a booklet to share tips on developing healthy parent-child relationship and remind parents to pay attention on their mental health. Other than drawing the cover, volunteers also customised the last page of the booklet with a blessing message and covering it with a removable sticker to give a surprise to the receivers.
Besides the DIY gifts, AXA was generous to prepare gift packs to our service users with anti-pandemic items, books, stationery, training items, board games, tangrams etc., which were distributed by the Association’s Y SENse and Chiu Oi Wah Nursery School.
The Association are honoured to participate in AXA CR Week in the previous years. We look forward to working with AXA again to provide more support to the needy in the future.
