Heartwarming stories during the novel coronavirus epidemic outbreaks
People are always worried and anxious because of the fight against the coronavirus. To ease the tension and bring strength to the public during this hard time, we will share some of the touching moments encountered by our front-line staff during their services.
Hidden elderly seeks for help
Wong (pseudonym) lives on her own and lacked support before she is referred to the Association’s Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre. She collapsed when she spoke about her fear, but found solace in the 1-hour phone conversation with the social worker. With the feeling of being taken care of, Wong promises to visit the Association and rebuild her social life when the epidemic is gone. Read full story.
Selfless devotion by the volunteer
The Association’s Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre continues to operate its elderly caring programme during the outbreak. Volunteers make more than 200 phone calls in two hours to get up-to-date status of the elders. They smooth out the elders’ worries due to the lack of masks and food, and provide possible assistance as well. One of the volunteers even offered his own masks to an elder. Read full story
The Association understands the helplessness of the underprivileged families, elders etc. during the epidemic outbreak.
