Beat up the post-retirement blues! Train the trainer to inherit traditional culture
Some people have been working their tail off for their whole life until retirement. They fail to adapt to the new ordinary life and hence lose passion for anything. Thanks for the generous support of Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund, YWCA Sydney Leong Holiday Lodge has launched "C.A.R.E Train the Trainer Project for Senior" to train retirees to become part-time trainers, so that they can make good use of their time, maintain connection with the society and expand their social circle.
The latest event welcomes anyone who aged 50 or above and is interested in becoming an eco-tour guide on Lantau. 23 people have finished the training. They are eligible to be part time tour guides after completing the training and fieldwork session, and passing the exams. They will introduce the ecology and culture of Tai O to the tourists and let them learn making salted eggs yolks, salted fish and weaving fishing nets from the locals, passing the declining tradition of craftsmanship to the next generation.
In addition to eco-tour guide training, earth oven cooking, natural dyeing, floor curling training are also available. 90 people have obtained mentor qualification with the programme, bringing them a brand new retirement experience.
