Fight for the infinite possibility! Elderly learning Thai-boxing with teens
Punching and kicking! Thai-boxing as one of the highest physically demanding sports seems like never connects with the elderly. However, a group of elderly women uncovered the infinite possibility of retirement through Thai-boxing.
Thanks to the Social Welfare Department in launching the “Opportunities for the Elderly Project”, ten old ladies had a chance to join the Thai-boxing class and attended training together with the teenage boys from Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School, regardless of their age and sex.
Even though Thai-boxing is a totally new experience for these old ladies, they tried their best to do so without boundaries, which is much admired by the young students. During boxing focus mitt training, they got a chance to communicate. These interactions provided opportunities for the young and old to better understand each other and foster transgenerational harmony. “I need to go home and prepare dinner,” said one participant at first, but she was reluctant to leave eventually. Old ladies also took the chance to record their training process with the phone, to show off to their families and share the excitement.
