HKYWCA organised seminars for parents with autistic children
HKYWCA and Jockey Club A-Connect co-organised a series of seminar to let parents learn about the difficulties faced by autistic children, and solutions that can help the kids.
The seminars were conducted by the Association’s social workers and staff who provide trainings for autistic children. Participants were given basic information of autism, and were requested to complete different tasks while facing obstruction nicely designed. These tasks enabled them to experience how dysfunction of sensory integration affects their kids’ emotion, learning and social ability.
We also provided various interventions that parents can use in daily life, for example, sensory integration training, Theory of Mind, treatment and education of autistic and communication handicapped children. Parents can stick images and slogan cards at home as visual strategies that help children to understand more about the surrounding environment. They should also interact more with the kids. A hug can bring sense of security which in return encourages children to establish relationship with others.
Thanks to Jockey Club A-Connect for sponsoring the seminars, allowing more parents to understand autism and the right way to help their kids.
