HKYWCA Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre celebrated the completion of its renovation project by organising a thanksgiving ceremony cum open day and introduced its services to the community and partners.
The Association was honored to have Ms. Chang King Yiu, JP, Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Horace Lit, Senior Charities Manager of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, and Dr. Tsang Wing Cheong, Vicar of Holy Spirit Church and Diocese of Eastern Kowloon, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican) to officiate at the opening ceremony. There were then a series of performance, e.g. sand painting, dancing and instrument playing, by the elder members of the centre.
The renovated center uses transparent and movable partitions to allow flexibility in utilising the space for different activities. Its design also integrates elderly- and environment-friendly concepts. For example, lighting system with occupancy sensors, automatic doors, sensor operated faucets are installed to facilitate the elders and to save energy. Besides, the centre has purchased new equipment to provide more comprehensive services to the needy. For instance, the electronic whiteboard, interactive projection system and multi-functional robot are useful in arousing elder’s interest in doing exercises and training their eye-hand coordination, computational thinking, reactions to sensory stimulation, etc.
Except the centre tour, the guests visited various booths to know more about our services, including courses promoting active ageing, schemes raising public awareness on home safety, innovative rehabilitation products etc. To celebrate the coming Chinese New Year, students of Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College and members of the centre’s Chinese calligraphy class were invited to write Fai Chun. The event also reflected one of the Association’s beliefs - promoting harmony across generations.
The Association would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Social Welfare Department, Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and Elderly Facilities Modernisation Scheme for supporting Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre’s rehabilitation project and new facilities purchase. The elders and their carers can now enjoy a more comfortable and modern environment.
