Sponsored by Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation, HKYWCA’s Project of “Love: Pass it On” concluded with success. The project has lasted for nearly a year, and aimed to strengthen parent-children relationships, pass on family values and wisdom, foster transgenerational harmony and promote loving family relationships.
The project consisted of three stages. Transgenerational families, recruited with high priority in the first stage, underwent different workshops, group activities and outdoor events to explore the values treasured by the family-of-origin. These activities helped to unite the family members. Participating families became ambassadors after a series of training and started to invite others to join the project. By sharing childhood games, pieces of wisdom, handicrafts, etc., family values have been treasured and promoted.
The second stage of the project targeted the community. Events and talks were held in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. Transgenerational volunteering visits and second-hand product exchanges were other ways to promote the importance of traditional values and a loving family. The project was at last concluded by a ceremony, in which the happy moments were shared in retrospect.
Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation has been a great support to the project. During the early stages of the project, Family Foundation Chairman Mr. David Lee visited the Association’s service centre in Tsing Yi and had fun with the participating families. They talked about the stories of their own family, tried a home-made lemon vinegar drink, and examined the potted citrus, which was used to make the traditional Chinese salted drink. In the course of the programme, another Lee's Family member Mr. Kevin Lee paid a visit in Sai Wan and gave us valuable feedback. He also met other participants who prepared red dates cakes for him.
The Association would like to express our gratitude once again to Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation for its sponsorship and support throughout the “Love: Pass it On” Project, which served over 3,200 people. It is a great success as the evaluation study showed that there are significant improvements in the participants’ family relationships, transgenerational harmony, inheritance of family values, and problem-solving skills within their families. Participants enjoyed the ceremony very much, and agreed that the programme brought positive changes to their families.
