Thanks to Rio Olympics, there were a lot of discussions on sport in summer 2016. Shatin Integrated Social Service Centre was honoured to be invited by Sha Tin District Youth Programme Committee (Sha Tin DYPC) to organise a Sports Fun Day in August, encouraging sport participation and advocating sportsmanship. It also targeted to promote a culture of caring and happiness sharing in the community.
The Fun Day was held on Aug 14 in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin). Various organisations in the community supported the event and sent teams of youngsters to compete in the Live Game Youth Cup cum Invitation Match. While the competition cultivated spirit of teamwork, omnikin ball and bubble football, two newly emerged sport, successfully engaged the spectators who formed an enthusiastic cheering team. Mr YIU Ka-chun, Chairman of Sha Tin DYPC, and Sha Tin District Council members also attended and even took part in the matches. Their participation enhanced the communication between different stakeholders in the community.
The Game Zone providing airsoft shooting, running Tic-Tac-Toe, football 3x3 and shuffleboard attracted a lot of residents. The instant photo booth was also popular, helping to create harmony and pleasure among people.
We are happy that Shatin Integrated Social Service Centre played a collaborative role in organising the Fun Day and successfully promoted a caring culture in the community. We shall continue our hard work to serve the people, and to accomplish the Association’s mission.
