To encourage the elders to widen their social circle and build confidence, HKYWCA will again join the Jade Party, a chair-based dance event organised by The Jade Club. HKYWCA Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre has developed chair-based dance for more than two years. Simple movements are designed for elders to practice while sitting on chairs and listening to music. The elderly can do exercise and meet new friends at the same time. The Centre also trains elders to be teaching assistants of the chair-based dance workshops. By helping others in class, elders know their ability better and become more confident. The kickoff ceremony of the Jade Party was held on March 10. Elder members of HKYWCA were invited to perform chair-based dance and Ms. Yvonne Yeung, Chief Executive of the Association attended to show support. Mr. Ng, a 101-year-old member said in the media interview that he joins the dance in the centre every week. Members of the Association and their family members will join the Jade Party in Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre on April 10, and 15 of them are trying hard to prepare for the competition on that day.
