Matthew Cheung visited elderly to extend Lunar New Year greetings
The elderly living in Cheng Pon Hing Care and Attention Home for the Elderly were happy to welcome an honourable guest on the fourth day of the Year of Monkey. Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare visited the Home, sent out mandarins and joined other residents for physical exercise. Accompanied by Ms. Maggie Leung, Assistant District Social Welfare Officer (Central Western, Southern and Islands); Ms. Lai Sau-ling, Deputy Chief Executive of HKYWCA; Mr. Silas Poon, Service Director (Elderly Service and YWCA Movement); and Ms. Rosanna Lai, the Home's Supervisor, Mr. Cheung visited the Home at Lei Tung Estate, Ap Lei Chau and was welcomed by four members of the Golden Guides. Mr. Cheung was briefed on the services the Association provides. He later joined the elderly in a physical exercise session, which was led by young professional trainers from Y Fitness, a social enterprise of HKYWCA. He commented that the fitness course is meaningful. As a token of goodwill, Mr. Cheung extended his warmest wishes and offered mandarins to each and every one in the Home. He also expressed his sincerest blessings to two 102-year-old elderly residents. Cheng Pon Hing Care and Attention Home for the Elderly started service in November 1990 and was HKYWCA’s first hostel for the elderly. It changed into a home for the aged, and a care and attention home for the elderly in 1997 and 2007 respectively, in respond to the need for more residential care services for elders.
