Sponsored by Women Helping Women Hong Kong, HKYWCA Women's Affairs Department held a party to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Self-strengthening Club (the Club), and to gather single mothers to share their stories.   

Renowned actress Ms. Eva Lai shared how she tackled problems in life with positive attitude and Christian faith. Other than Ms. Lai’s inspiring sharing, members of the Club arranged a number of performances too, including drama, hymns and song singing, and made a great impact on those facing similar challenges. 

The Club’s legal adviser Ms. Vera Lam, art advisers Mr. Michael Lam and Ms. Michelle Chung attended the event too. They witnessed the transformation of the Club’s members, who all suffered a good deal of misfortune despite their age and background. The three advisers appreciated how the members stayed together and supported each other like a family.  

Since 1997, the Association has started to provide services for single-moms. The Self-strengthening Club was set up the next year as a platform for the service users to exchange ideas and mutual support. Over the past twenty years, the Club has organised different activities to strengthen members’ physical, psychological, social and spiritual health, and voiced concern on issues about single-parent. A mobile app was also developed, working hand in hand with a Facebook page, to help women facing marital adversity.
