Sponsored by SOCAM Development Limited and Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, HKYWCA Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre launched a programme to give away insect repellents to grassroots elders in Sham Shui Po, to help them tackle mosquito and pest problems.

The poor living conditions of most of the underprivileged elders in Sham Shui Po cause severe mosquito and pest problems. The Association was glad to receive financial support from SOCAM Development Limited and Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, to organise workshops for corporate and elderly volunteers to make insect repellents. Natural ingredients e.g. curcumin powder, beeswax, stearic acid and organic essential oil were used, so that the products can help elders in Shum Shui Po to create a more comfortable and clean living environment by preventing mosquitos and pests without posing harm to their health.

With the support from another donor, 500 pieces of insect repellents were manufactured for charity sale. The revenue will be used to extend the programme and produce more repellents for the needy in the community.
