Ten Cantonese opera excerpts performed by young and old broke age boundary
To become an actor is never an easy task, although some people be interested in Cantonese opera, most of them can only be an audience. Thanks to the Social Welfare Department launching the “Opportunities for the Elderly Project 2019/20”, twelve elderly from YWCA Wan Wah Care & Attention Home for the Elderly join the Cantonese opera project, and playing shows with dozens of young volunteers, to fulfill their dream of being a star on the stage.
Twelve elderly forming a Cantonese opera team with young volunteers since last June and were practiced 5 classic Cantonese opera excerpts. They both take very seriously with the performance, not only work hard to recite the complex lines of Cantonese opera, also pay great attention to expressions and positions. They have performed 10 shows in elderly homes and community theatre till this January, more than one thousand attendance.
This program not only filling up their dream of being an actor, inspiring their potential, help them keep in touch with younger and building up friendships too, also to enhance generation harmony, and show that the elderly people can also dream a dream.
