The benefits of exercise are numerous. However, few Hongkongers are resolute in regular exercise because of busy work. In order to promote "workout anytime, anywhere", 11 young people from our CLAP Team formed "YeahGuys", dedicated to bringing street workout to the community. The half-year project attracted over a hundred participants and was granted an award in CLAP for Youth@JC’s "Dare to Achieve: Strive for a Different Life" Award Scheme.
"YeahGuys" was set up at the end of 2018, and have then held seven community events to promote street sports, including stretching exercises, HIIT, Tabata, etc. The members acted as coaches and passed general knowledge of sports to the participants.
The project brought unforgettable memories to the members, especially the challenges in designing activities that fit participants from different age groups. Fortunately, with the support from a professional sports coach, they combined the use of different activities to suit everyone and let people have fun, hence pick up the habit to exercise.
Vincy, one of the members, said that she has learnt a lot during the events and improved her problem-solving skills. It was also satisfying to receive positive feedback from the participants.
