Green Care, managed by the Association’s NWS Y Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly (North District), took part in the Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services 2017 organised by the Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, China. After two rounds of interview, the project has received the award in recognition of its contribution of the society.
With the support from DBS Social Enterprise Advancement Grant and Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund in 2016, Green Care was launched to match social resources with people’s needs. It is the first online one-stop trading platform for second-handed rehab products, which will be collected and then sold or rented at a cost lower than the market price, or even donated to people in need. The platform helps to improve people’s living standard without adding further financial burden. At the same time, it promotes environmental friendly measures that reduce waste to the environment.
Running for about a year, Green Care has received around 600 pieces of rehab products, and 200 elder families have benefited from the platform by purchasing or renting items at low cost.
