Women empowerment has always been an emphasis of the Association, and hence Glocal Y has emerged and kept its pace with the new era. With “Think Global. Act Local” as the underlying belief, HKYWCA would like to nurture young women who are concerned with different societal problems and are willing to voice their opinions.
Advisors of Glocal Y met over 20 young women in early July, to learn about their views on personal, societal and international issues. 15 participants passed the interview and were invited to join the one-year training.
The opening event of Glocal Y, a 3-day-2-night leadership training camp was successfully held in August. Participants gained in-depth understanding of the history and development of YWCA. By live chatting with three World YWCA members via the internet, stories from different parts of the world were revealed. The Association was also honoured to invite Mr. Stephen Wong, Mr. Erwin Huang, Ms. Christina Chung and Mr. Alex Hui, together with Ms. Eva Lee and Ms. Emily Lee from HKYWCA, to discuss topics like youth social mobility and community participation, societal issues under social media, gender justice, and YWCA culture.
Glocal Y participants will join different trainings, e.g. workshops on specific topics, job shadowing, special working experience, policy advocacy, social media application etc. Some of them may even join the UN Commission on the Status of Women overseas. The Association anticipates that Glocal Y establishes into a platform for young women to participate in and carry out projects that lead to positive social changes.
