Verinteers (Volunteers of Verint) invited children from the grassroots living in Sham Shui Po to join a baking class and make chocolate cakes together. They also prepared pastry for grassroots elderly. All children, elderly and Verinteers had a wonderful afternoon.

This summer is sizzling hot. On top of the pandemic, life has been difficult for the grassroots. Indoor temperature in subdivided flats can be higher than outdoor temperature in the summer. Residents no longer hang around parks and shopping malls to enjoy a bit of cool, like what they used to do in the past, because of the fear for the pandemic. Workload of cleaning workers has increased significantly too. Working in the blazing sunshine make them more vulnerable to heat stroke.

The Association’s Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre cooperates with Food Angel in providing meals for underprivileged elders in Sham Shui Po, to reduce their financial stress. 

In view of the extra spending on anti-coronavirus goods, Café de Coral offers food coupons to underprivileged elderly in order to lessen their financial burden.

Sponsored by SOCAM Development Limited and Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged, HKYWCA Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre launched a programme to give away insect repellents to grassroots elders in Sham Shui Po, to help them tackle mosquito and pest problems.

The Free Food Coupon for Senior Citizens Programme has served the 7 consecutive years. Underprivileged elders have benefited greatly from the scheme and the Free Food Coupon Shopping Day, co-organised by PARKnSHOP and HKYWCA.

HKYWCA joins the Care for The Elderly Charity Ticket Campaign 2018 (“the Campaign”) to raise fund for the Association’s comprehensive and self-financed elderly social services, which include Y Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly (Yau Yat Chuen), Y Farm for Healthy Ageing, Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and Cheung Ching Neighbourhood Elderly Centre.
