Y Silver Link sets up a demonstration room at HKYWCA’s headquarter in Central. It aims to increase the elder and their caregivers’ awareness on home safety issues through on-the-spot visits, experiential activities and interactive games. Visitors then know how to create a comfortable and safe living environment for elders, and promote ageing in place.

Bupa (Asia) Limited and Quality HealthCare Medical Services Limited supported the Association’s Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre to organise a series of activities for the elders and their caregivers living in North District.
Sponsored by the Hip Hing-Vibro Volunteer Team, HKYWCA Elderly Service Department co-organised a fitness walking event with Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China and Chinese YMCA College at Ma On Shan Promenade successfully. The event aimed to encourage elderly couples to develop fitness walking as a common interest, which helps to keep relationship fresh.
HKYWCA joins the Care for The Elderly Charity Ticket Campaign 2018 (“the Campaign”) to raise fund for the Association’s comprehensive and self-financed elderly social services, which include Y Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly (Yau Yat Chuen), Y Farm for Healthy Ageing, Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and Cheung Ching Neighbourhood Elderly Centre. The Association invites your participation to help the needy!

深水埗區獨居長者人數全港排行第二,香港基督教女青年會進行的深水埗區「十大長者最喜愛的長者友善行動」調查正正反映,該區長者除最渴望獲主動讓座外,最盼望可多與人聯繫。
女青去年的「長者友善社區調查研究」顯示,在長者友善八大範疇中,「尊重和社會包容」平均值較其他服務地區如港島東、中西區、葵青區及新界北區為低。女青深水埗分區督導主任吳翠萍指出,雖然該研究的被訪者未能覆蓋全港地區,有其局限性,但仍反映有需要正視深水埗區的長者友善情況,因此發動了女青在深水埗區不同服務單位,包括耆年、青年服務及幼兒學校一起在該區進行「十大長者最喜愛的長者友善行動」調查,藉此了解長者期望社區人士或親友為他們實行的長者友善行動,同時了解該區不同年齡組群的社區人士認為自己有能力可做到的行動,從而整合具體而可實行的行動建議,營造深水埗成為更為長者友善的社區。

香港讓座文化不彰,久被詬病,香港基督教女青年會耆年服務部今年進行的「公共交通工具讓座文化」調查顯示,近4成長者過去一周出外時無人讓座。不單如此,當中的問卷結果及聚焦訪談更揭露四大特別現象,如有長者主動要求他人讓出優先座,被拒之餘反被無情責罵。
是次調查在今年年初進行,共向1,100名長者發出問卷,並透過2次聚焦小組收集長者在使用公共交通工具時被讓座的情況。負責調查的香港基督教女青年會耆年服務部督導主任黎玉潔表示,1035位 (94.1%)受訪長者表示在過去一周有乘搭公共交通工具外出,雖然有62.5%人稱過去一周曾有被讓座,但仍有37.5%人沒人讓座。
她續道,跟長者深入討論時,他們表示在搖晃不定的公共交通工具上,一般站立15分鐘已覺辛苦,所以仍有近4成長者表示沒人讓座,可以想像到他們平日乘車的苦況。但她指出,是次研究不只發現讓座情況尚有待改善,更發現一些值得關注的現象。
