Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre organised “RetirEnterainment”, a programme training 50+ retirees to serve the community as volunteers. It was granted “The 5th Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services Award” by Lions Clubs International District 303 - Hong Kong & Macao, China.

CLARINS, a renowned cosmetic brand organised an event “Walking along with the kids” in late June. Children from the grassroots living in Sham Shui Po were invited to join a baking class. Accompanied by over 20 CLARINS’ volunteers, the children made chocolate cakes and scones and spent a wonderful weekend with full of sweet fragrance.

What is volunteer work?

“Volunteering is the contribution of time, effort and talent to a need, cause or mission without financial gain. This kind of simplicity attracts me and now I get used to volunteering regularly. Even on my birthday, I went out in the morning to give anti-epidemic items to the elderly and cleaners in Sham Shui Po. This makes my birthday special,” said a YWCA Honorary volunteer.

Friendship has no age limit. We just need a chance to know each other better. YWCA Sai Wan Social Centre for the Elderly recently held a Fun Day to bring 80 young and old closer. Apart from keeping elderly’s brains active with different matches, it also allowed both parties to have a deeper understanding and helped build intergenerational harmony in the community.

Being firmly rooted in the Christian faith and subscribed to the belief of all-round development of individuals, YWCA has been nurturing both members and volunteers and encouraging the unleashing of talents for the benefits of society. 3 young volunteers from Tin Shui Wai Integrated Social Service Centre, through their strength in different fields and enthusiasm for serving the public, have recently received recognition from Social Welfare Department's Yuen Long District Outstanding Volunteer Award 2020.

The pandemic broke our routine in 2020. When gathering with friends is no longer easy, social software becomes important tool to maintain interpersonal relationships and grasp latest information. However, it generates more problems for elderly who are not familiar with new technologies.

YWCA Women Affairs Department launches the “PeaceMaker” programme. As stated in the Bible, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Mattew 5:9), we would like to be the peacemaker by linking up churches, the Association’s members and volunteers to distribute anti-epidemic goods and daily necessities to the single-parent families and the grassroots in Kowloon district. 

Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association (HKEAA) and HKYWCA co-organised “Together We Care 2019”, bringing more than 1,900 volunteers to spread love and care to elders and low income families.

Sinomax organised a Mid-Autumn Festival luncheon for the elderly.
