Three YWCA units jointly celebrated new milestones
While the Association celebrates its 105th anniversary in Hong Kong, some of its units have also been serving the community for a long time.
Waihong Services Group collaborated with the YWCA to write the ecological diary of Tai O
Waihong Services Group volunteers launched a community service in Tai O, fostering urban-rural interaction through ecological tours, cultural experiences, and visits to the elderly, embodying the spirit of corporate responsibility. The team’s first stop was an ecological guided tour of Tai O, led by trained local resident. The guide took participants through the mangrove wetlands, where they observed habitats of fiddler crabs, mudskippers, egrets, etc.
YWCA joined hands with elite athletes in “Together We Care 2025” to spread community care
YWCA joined hands with Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association, Hong Kong Jockey Club and Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School to organise “Together We Care 2025”. The Association mobilised its citywide network to coordinate venues across five districts and recruit 1,000 participants, including elderly living alone, underprivileged youth, and families, thereby fostering community integration through sports exchanges and material support.
YWCA laid down a memory staircase for Sai Wan Estate
The Hong Kong Housing Authority has officially launched the Sai Wan Estate Information Gallery and the “Stairway Stories” Trail. Having served the community for years, YWCA Sai Wan Social Centre for the Elderly offered support to build a fortress of community memories in Sai Wan Estate, allowing residents to relive the cherished moments of everyday life.
YWCA joined hands with Little Yellow Flower Foundation to organise a movie appreciation event
YWCA, in collaboration with Little Yellow Flower Foundation (hereafter referred to as LYFF), organised a movie appreciation event titled “Together in Wonder: Enjoying Light and Shadow” at the end of summer vacation, weaving warm memories for 194 individuals from 62 underprivileged families. Thanks to LYFF’s full sponsorship of theatre rental and coach transportation, children who rarely get to experience the cinema atmosphere were able to enjoy the fantastic journey of “Doraemon: Nobita's Painting World” on the big screen.
YWCA organises "Strive and Rise Programme" Sichuan study tour ignites a journey of enlightenment and growth
Sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club and organised by YWCA, the "Strive and Rise Programme" Sichuan study tour brought together 96 grass-roots youths for a five-day, four-night exploration of Sichuan. This cross-regional exchange not only exemplified the tripartite collaboration between the government, the business sector and the community but also highlighted YWCA’s commitment to actively support young people in broadening their horizons and building self-confidence.
Two more picture books of YWCA's Emotion Education series won Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards
After Crying Leaf, the Association’s Emotion Education Picture Book Series has received another Publishing Award in the Children and Youth category at the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards. The winning titles, Disgusting Hair and Worrying Otter, have helped parents and children navigate emotional challenges through heartfelt storytelling grounded in professional psychological theory.
Empowerment in action: YWCA’s 21C@JC redefined youth service model
“Redefine: The First Lesson of Awakening” (“Redefine”) was an immersive experience designed to showcase the achievements of YWCA’s community innovation initiative, 21C@JC. On Aug 3, Ms. Chan Lai Chu, Assistant Director (Youth & Corrections), Social Welfare Department; Ms. Winnie Ying, Head of Charities, The Hong Kong Jockey Club; Ms. Yvonne Yeung, YWCA’s Chief Executive and youth representatives took part in a series of activities that challenged conventional boundaries and witnessed the transformation of social services.
YWCA was honoured with dual awards in “Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services Award”
YWCA is proud to have received dual accolades in “The 7th Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services Award” presented by Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, China. The two recongised projects - “Smart Hub - Telecare Project for Rural Villagers of North District” (“Smart Hub”) and “Muppet Show - Healing with Pleasure” (“Muppet Show”) – focused respectively on physical and mental well-being of the elderly, exemplified the Association’s holistic and thoughtful approach to elderly care.
YWCA Jockey Club “Speech Up” Project helps young children overcome speech development challenges
YWCA Jockey Club “Speech Up” is a support initiative for young children with speech impairment, offering targeted assistance to families with children aged 1-6 in New Territories West. It aims to help those in need of speech development interventions while they await government services. A multi-disciplinary team - comprising social workers, speech therapists, special childcare workers, and child ambassadors - delivers a 10-month intensive programme. It includes speech training for children, contextual teaching workshops for parents and parent-child activities.
