YWCA Study: 40.6% of Women Feel “Unblessed”, Level of Well-Being Drops More In Younger Age Group

How do modern women with multiple roles and responsibilities in their daily lives feel about themselves? The latest research conducted by the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), referencing the World Health Organization (WHO) standards and measuring women in Hong Kong against the Well-Being Index, revealed an average score of just one point above the cut-off line, with 40.6% of respondents below par. Notably, younger women are associated with lower levels of well-being than others.

“Lying flat” or “Goblin Mode” are the terms that have been trending among young people since 2021. According to a recent study by Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), this mindset has become a trend towards even younger generations. Over 25% of secondary school students in the survey admitted that after repeated efforts and failures in life, they realised the need to live beyond the mainstream value and deliberately adopted “Goblin Mode”; thus they can pursuit a simple, free and comfortable lifestyle.

Survey Unveils Frequent Parenting Conflict Start from "False Compromise"

Parenting issues often bother whole family, leading to frequent disputes yet struggle to find effective solutions. A recent survey by the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) reveals that 40% of parents experiencing conflicts with their children at least once a week, which mean plenty of ordinary families are facing similar challenges. The survey suggests that giving a "false compromise" as a tool of resolving conflicts, actually leads to repeated disputes and deteriorates parent-child relationships.

YWCA joined HKCSS’s S+ Summit cum Expo and introduced the Association’s career and life development supportive service for young mothers. The Expo was divided into four major zones under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our booth was located at the zone on “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, and was transformed into a supermarket stocked with crochet vegetables, fruits and fishes by young mothers. The creative and exquisite handcrafts made our booth very popular and attracted many corporate partners to pay a visit.

CITIC Pacific organised environmental protection workshop

Wood is a natural raw material that we have at our fingertips. We consume a large amount of wood and paper every day. How can we reduce wastage, recycle and give new life to wood or used paper? CITIC Pacific held an environmental protection workshop for volunteers and elderly to learn about recycled wood, understand how to make good use of readily available wood, and experience the recycling of paper products.

Easy Sport Carnival Showcasing New Sports to Elevate Mental Health

Exercising is one of the best ways to improve physical fitness and strengthen mental health by relieving stress and pressure. In order to cultivate the habit of exercising and to raise awareness on mental health among teenagers, YWCA launched "Easy Sport" program last year and held the Easy Sports Carnival at their Kowloon Centre to showcase the achievements.
