YWCA, SHKP and SWD joined together to bring festive blessings to elderly in Eastern and Wan Chai Districts

As the Lunar New Year approaches, YWCA Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre, in collaboration with the Eastern and Wan Chai District Social Welfare Office of Social Welfare Department, and the Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) Volunteer Team, launched the “SHKP Building Homes with Heart” Caring Initiative. The programme aimed to convey care to grassroots and elderly singletons, while strengthening the spirit of mutual support within the community.

“Smart & Fun Therapy @Home” won the prestigious “Age-Friendly Collaborator Award”

Let’s celebrate a landmark achievement in cross-sector collaboration! YWCA Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre collaborates with the Occupational Therapy Department of North District Hospital to launch the “Smart & Fun Therapy @Home” initiative. Out of 399 projects, it stood out and was honoured the “Age-Friendly Collaborator Award” in the Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme.

YWCA celebrated National Day with residents of Kowloon City

“Celebrating National Day in Kowloon City - Caring Community Carnival”, sponsored by the Kowloon City District Office and organised by YWCA, was held successfully in late Sep. In her welcome speech, Ms. Woo Yuen Ling, Service Director (Employment Services & YWCA Movement) of YWCA expressed the wish to unite the residents of Kowloon City District with a joyful carnival, to celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, as well as to understand and appreciate traditional culture and national treasures.

Hip Hing and Vibro hosted Cantonese opera show featuring “The Butterfly and the Red Pear Blossoms” for YWCA elderly members

Organised by the Corporate Social Responsibility Committees of Hip Hing and Vibro, and co-organised by YWCA, the Cantonese opera show The Butterfly and the Red Pear Blossoms was successfully held at the Grand Theatre of the Xiqu Centre, West Kowloon Cultural District. YWCA was honoured with dual awards in “Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services Award”

YWCA is proud to have received dual accolades in “The 7th Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services Award” presented by Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, China. The two recongised projects - “Smart Hub - Telecare Project for Rural Villagers of North District” (“Smart Hub”) and “Muppet Show - Healing with Pleasure” (“Muppet Show”) – focused respectively on physical and mental well-being of the elderly, exemplified the Association’s holistic and thoughtful approach to elderly care. 

YWCA and DBS Bank (Hong Kong) co-create a caring community through volunteerism

YWCA and DBS Bank (Hong Kong) have teamed up to launch a series of volunteer initiatives, weaving a mutual support network that connects corporate volunteers with diverse groups in society. These journeys of community care go far beyond one-off services, but form a complete cycle - from preparation to implementation, learning to teaching – cultivating a culture of compassion within the community.

Union Enterprises volunteers and elderly worked together for Turkish mosaic glass lamps

We light up the lamp for illumination. Light also represents hope which leads you to the way out of darkness. Union Enterprises gave back to the community by organising visit to YWCA Mr. & Mrs. C.F. Tao Neighbourhood Elderly Centre. The volunteers and elderly worked together to make Turkish mosaic glass lamps with colourful glass pieces. 

YWCA garnered various awards in “Opportunities for the Elderly Project 2023/24”

YWCA is committed to enhancing the wellness of the elderly and promoting innovative services. The Association garnered a number of awards at the “Opportunities for the Elderly Project 2023/24” (OEP) organised by the Social Welfare Department lately. “Muppet Show - Healing with Pleasure” implemented by Wan Wah Care and Attention Home for the Elderly was the champion among the two-year projects. Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre’s "Abundant Life Project" won the second runner-up and a creative award in the same category.

"AS Watson Project LOL Elderly Visit" shared love with 2,000 elderly

The Association was glad to be invited to participate in AS Watson Project LOL Elderly Visit again, to share love with 2,000 elderly living across the territory. YWCA's Deputy Chief Executive Ms. Emily Lee joined Mr. Dominic Lai, Chairman of AS Watson Group, Dr. Malina Ngai, Group CEO of AS Watson Group and representatives from other participating companies and organisations, to kick off the visit and cheer for the volunteers.
