Wood is a natural raw material that we have at our fingertips. We consume a large amount of wood and paper every day. How can we reduce wastage, recycle and give new life to wood or used paper? CITIC Pacific held an environmental protection workshop for volunteers and elderly to learn about recycled wood, understand how to make good use of readily available wood, and experience the recycling of paper products.

According to the data from the Education Bureau, the number of teen suicide cases has been on the rise in 2023. To tackle with the growing mental health problems among secondary students, the Association has launched the two-year “Embrace Emotions Programme for the Youth", which incorporates music therapy, art therapy, mental health workshops, etc. A series of activities will be organised to raise participants’ awareness of one’s own mental health, and to guide them to establish a good mental state by relieving their negative emotions.

YWCA Flag Day was successfully held in Kowloon region last Saturday (Apr 13). Thanks to all YWCA members, students and working partners, more than 2,000 volunteers joined the event and helped raise funds for women-oriented services to support underprivileged women. The Association would like to express our sincere gratitude to all participants and supporters who made the event a success. 

YWCA was honoured numerous awards in two award presentation ceremonies last month, including “ERB Outstanding Award for Promotion and Marketing” in “ERB Annual Award Presentation Ceremony 2023 – 24”. Three ERB trainees of the Association were honoured with “ERB Outstanding Award for Trainees” and one was honoured with "ERB Merit Award for Trainees". Another ERB trainee was awarded “Self-improvement for Working Adults Award” in Sir Edward Youde Memorial Awards.

Organised by the Association’s Early Childhood Education Department, “Kid’s Art and Craft Exhibition of Loong” showcased the art works of the children from 11 nursery schools and kindergartens in early March in D‧Park, Tsuen Wan. 

YWCA has been concerned about the welfare of the aged. The Association joined the Care for the Elderly Charity Ticket Campaign 2023 to raise funds for our elderly service. The entire Association took initiatives to organise different charity sales and talent shows to raise fund from the public. We successfully raised more than $1,100,000 and became Champion of “Top Fundraising Organisations”. Thanks for all generous supports and efforts made by our working partners and volunteers to advocate elderly’s well-beings. 

YWCA has successfully held ChariTea on International Women's Day, i.e. 8 Mar, for 15th consecutive years. The campaign aims to remind people to spread love and care to women around them. Apart from receiving red date tea bags from our volunteers in the morning in different territories, general public can also get the bag bags in more than one hundred spots, including YWCA centres and our partners’ stores. 

Strive and Rise Programme is organised through tripartite collaboration between the Government, the business sector and the community. The second phase has started and YWCA is one of the district organisers in Kowloon West. The Association sets up a new service centre in Saxon Tower, Lai Chi Kok and will organise different events for the participants. 

Many elders place great importance on Chinese New Year and are usually busy with the preparations. However, it is difficult for elderly living in Cheng Pon Hing Care & Attention Home for the Elderly to enjoy the festive momentum. Miricor volunteer team therefore organised a visit to help the seniors dress up in Chinese New Year outfits and capture their joyful smiles with photos. 

YWCA has been serving the community with love and care, by offering a wide range of services to all ages, from newborn to elderly. For the first time, YWCA will collaborate with Moomin to raise funds on Flag Day.
